The initial returns on eProcurement are in – and the news isn’t good. B2B marketplaces are not delivering as promised. Many of the most hyped have already ceased operations. Those that are left are seeing only a trickle of transactions and very little spend volume. Suppliers have balked at joining in; buyers have been either unwilling or unable to take part. Wall Street, never known for its patience, has long since gone searching for greener pastures. What was promised almost universally as one of the biggest revolutions in how suppliers and their customers interact has, up until now, been a disappointment.
